Odorous Ants

The odorous house ant (Tapinoma sessile) is a small black ant (1/8 inch long), with one node (arrow) that is not easily visible. They live in huge colonies and nest under debris and other materials on the surface of the ground. They can nest indoors, and there may be several colonies in and around a structure. When crushed, the ant gives off a particular odor - like rotting coconuts.
